French Bébé Reproduction porcelain doll marked 4.5 and SCH under crossed hammers in shield

This unusual doll was made by Schmitt & Fils (Schmitt & Sons), a French doll company that operated from 1863 to 1891. The quality of dolls they produced was excellent.

Poured in finest porcelain in “Lady White" with many layers of China paint applied meticulously with up to 6 firings in between.

Very Fine painting done in February of 2018

This is one of the most unusually modeled of the French dolls, as she has enormous, very almond-shaped eyes, giving her a very unique look among French Bébés.

She features the very finest French Paperweight hand blown solid glass eyes by Hand Glass Craft of England in light blue color with fabulous threading.

She features gorgeous long Human hair wig in auburn color with bangs. I liked the look of the straight hair so I left it without curling it.

Her necklace and matching earrings are made with Genuine Swarovski Crystals and Swarovski glass pearls.

She is on a genuine 16.5 inch reproduction composition French Bebe body hand made by Jim Vickerman absolutely superb body…. This is one of the new ones with latex paint.

This doll stands 22 inches tall and 25 inches with bonnet included.

The wonderful costume is made from all Antique cotton fabrics and Antique French laces. The flower embellishments were custom hand-made for this costume. The details of these flowers are incredible.

The undergarments include bloomers and half slip, hand knitted silk/rayon socks and shoes in the French style are made from silk taffeta.

Few dolls come together as beautifully as this fabulous doll and very special costume.
